Marian College, from the time of its inception, has been socially committed and community oriented.The present patron Rt. Rev. Mar Mathew Arackal, Bishop of Kanjirappally, the founder executive director of PDS has a long four decades of experience in the field of Social Work. It has been the vision of His Excellency and that of the others in the governing body of Marian college that has culminated in the establishment of the Marian  School of Social Work. The first course to be commenced at  SSW is the Masters in Social Work (MSW) programme.

MSW course in Marian is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University. . Presently the specializations offered are Rural and Urban Community Development, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Family and Child Welfare. The Marian  School of Social Work has incomparable facilities for the training of the students. The Association of School of Social Work with  national and international NGOs enables its students to get the vital fieldwork training.
