Innovations in curricular design and transaction

    (a)BCA

As far as the curriculum design is concerned department has no power, as the university is the full

    authority in curriculum design.

Regarding the transaction, department experiments some methodologies as explained below.

    (i) In the beginning of each session a short discussion is done on previous day class. This help the

students to clarify their doubts and to clear their ideas.

(ii) Classes are made effective by the use of OHP and other audiovisual facilities.

(iii) All teachers arrange frequent tests.

      (b) B Com

The university and its bodies are the sole authority in designing the curriculum   of the B.Com. Course and the department is not having any role in it. But as far as the delivery of the curriculum is concerned the department has got some space and in the academic year the following innovations were undertaken.

1.Visual Basic (latest version), Tally, Tata Exe, Internet, e commerce, etc. are included in the IIIrd year syllabus from 2003-04 onwards and was taught with sufficient computer lab hours. Similarly MS Excel, MS Access 2000, MS PowerPoint etc. were taught to IInd year B> Com students with sufficient lab hours.   The university in the curriculum does not prescribe lab hours as far as these topics are concerned. The teachers were undertaking extra work to the extent of four times to the time specified by the university.

Usually a group of students will take the initiative in organising the quiz programs. They themselves will organise the quiz program and even give prizes to the winners. Students were very much enthusiastic in organising and participating in such quiz programs. The result of such programs was that the students' interest in academic activities increased and that has contributed in the improvement of knowledge of the students.

4.The assignment system adopted in the department is unique in the sense that the students themselves can choose and decide their assignments according to their preference. In consultation with the teacher concerned thus it was possible to undertake several mini projects, which has got research orientation. It has helped the students in developing a strong aptitude for research during degree education period itself.

5.Lot of opportunities were provided to the students for applying the learning, which they have made in the classroom by developing application software etc. For E.g. a group of four students prepared a CD including the personal details of all the students and another group prepared another CD comprising 1000 objective type questions relating to Entrepreneurship Development and management.

6.For the purpose of improving the listening and speaking skills of Hindi students   film appreciation programs were regularly conducted in the class. Weekly stage programs also were conducted mainly with the intention of improving the communication skills of the students.
