MSW (Master of Social Work)
School of Social Work at Marian College Kuttikkanam offers a full time MSW (Master of Social Work) course with four semesters. The programme offers the following specializations in the second year (third and fourth semesters)
- Family and Child Welfare
- Medical and Psychiatric social work
- Community development
The faculty believe that all of classroom activities, scholarship, and field practicum are interrelated. In the classroom the teachers make extensive use of a dialogic/Socratic approach to teaching. This involves raising questions and attempts to test and expand students' critical thinking abilities. Other methods that are extensively used are panel discussions, symposiums, seminars and debates, exhibition and workshops, role plays, case studies and review of articles, written and presentation assignments, systematically planned field work programs and social interventions as assignments.
Besides the core courses, the programme includes compulsory rural camp, observational visits to at least five social work related organizations, community based field work, dissertation/ project, comprehensive viva and block placement.
